Our Halloween Home {2024}
It’s funny to think about how all in I am on Halloween decor these days. Back when Jackson was smaller, he’d beg and beg and beg for me to get something – anything – to decorate for Halloween. I always said no. It just wasn’t my thing! But, over the years he wore me down, and seeing how happy it makes both kids has honestly brought so much joy.
These days, it’s safe to say we’re a big Halloween family. We love browsing the stores for new Halloween decor, I’ve got skeleton sprinkled all over the house, and we add a few new pieces to our collection every year.
Halloween Around Our Home
This year I wanted to be really intentional about layering in the Halloween with the fall decor. Otherwise, it feels like I only have fall up for a few days before it switches over! I think I struck a pretty good balance – it feels nice and spooky but there are still plenty of touches of fall lingering.
Let’s take a little tour of some of my favorite parts of our Halloween decor this year. As much as I’d like to invite each of you over for some pumpkin sugar cookies and a glass of cider, this will have to suffice.
Halloween in the Entry
Last year I bought a couple of full-sized (5-foot!) skeletons, and we have so much fun decorating with them! This guy lives in the entry, and he’s such a fun little surprise when people come over. Sometimes the kids will put a hat on him or place something in his hands – he’s basically a part of the family at this point.
I also added a few other touches – the tall ghost on the entry table was one of my favorite finds from Marshall’s this year, and you know I couldn’t resist the Haunted Mansion inspired sign.
Halloween in the Living Room
A little bit of cobwebs go a long way! I absolutely loathe working with this sticky, stretchy cobweb material, but the impact is worth the effort every time! Also, these little bats have been a staple of our Halloween decor for years now. They work great just about anywhere, and I just attach them with a little bit of tape.
The disco ball witch cauldron has been a favorite of mine this year – I always make sure I’m working in the living room when the sun hits it. The sparkles it throws around the room feel like pure magic!
We’ve got another little skeleton friend tucked in the corner, along with the Hocus Pocus LEGO set and several other mini skeletons scattered around the shelves. I love how they look all grouped together, and it’s such an easy way to make a space feel spooky!
Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about the Halloween throw pillows. I’ve somehow ended up with quite the collection! They’re such a fun and easy way to add some seasonal vibes to the living room, and I smile every single time I look at the little ghost and bat perched on my leather chair!
Halloween in the Dining Room & Kitchen
One of the first things the kids ask about when I’m gathering Halloween decor is if I’m going to put the witch hats up. They love the impact they make in the dining room, and I’ve gotta say I agree with them. It’s so simple to hang ’em up with some fishing line and push pins, and it’s really all the dining room needs!
I added some cobwebs to the cutting board wall, along with a few small touches in the kitchen. It can be tempting to really go all out, but just a few little bats and a cute Halloween mug or two really go a long way.
Halloween Decorating Tips
Now, let’s be clear – do I think everyone should decorate like this for Halloween? Of course not! I’m well aware that I can be a little extra when it comes to the holidays. This just isn’t practical for a lot of people! But, hopefully you can still find some inspiration and ideas for your own home in what you see here.
A few thoughts on keeping things low key while also getting a nice, spooky vibe:
- If you decide to add some cobweb (you should – it’s cheap!), remember that the thinner you stretch it, the more realistic it looks! It’s perfect for shelves or mirrors, and requires minimal effort.
- Tucking a ghost or a skeleton onto an existing shelf display amps up the spooky factor with zero effort. This doesn’t need to be an “all or nothing” situation!
- A cute garland on the mantel is a fun touch that takes less than 5 minutes to put up.
- One of my favorite additions every year is a cinnamon broom! I always grab one from Trader Joe’s and it makes the entry smell heavenly for weeks.
- Halloween mugs are the easiest way to add some seasonal vibes to the kitchen. Plus, who doesn’t want to drink your morning coffee out of a seasonally appropriate mug?!
- And finally, remember this is supposed to be fun! I decorate our home like this for Halloween partially because the kids love it but also because I love it. I have fun getting creative with things, it keeps me in the spooky mood, and I like to shake things up in our house. If it didn’t bring me joy, I’d skip it!
And now, I’ve gotta wrap this post up because it’s almost time for my disco ball cauldron to put on its daily show when the sun hits it. I can’t miss that!
