Welcome to Friday Finds, the post where I pretend like all the perusing I do at my favorite places online actually has a purpose. Today we’re bringing back an old favorite: Craigslist!
If you’re new around these parts then you won’t remember this, but a few years back I used to have this super fun feature each week where I would peruse Craigslist (in Austin, and in other cities based on reader requests) and pull the best of the best items that needed a little love. Then, I’d share ’em over here and talk about how they could be transformed. It was a fun way to see what was available and you guys seemed to really love the inspiration.
Well, it’s time to bring it back.
Today we’ll be browsing Austin’s Craigslist, but if you have a reader request feel free to shoot me an email at email@example.com and I’ll add you to the queue. We won’t be doing Craigslist every week, but it’ll be popping up from time to time!
Welcome to Friday Finds, the post where I all pretend like the perusing I do at my favorite places online actually has a purpose. Today’s theme? “Toddlers”!
Before I had Jackson, I would always hear parents complain about how they never spend money on themselves anymore and that all of their spare money goes towards clothes and toys for their kid instead.
“That will never be me!” I thought to myself. “I like buying clothes too much! Who cares how my kid dresses?”
Oh, how naive I was. Now that I’m a parent, I find that I’m constantly wanting to spend money on cute clothes, toys, and fun things for Jackson while I don’t remember the last time I actually purchased something for myself.
Here are the things in my virtual cart for Jackson lately:
I loved browsing through the Anthropologie clearance section a few weeks ago for Friday Finds, so I thought today I’d check out West Elm’s sale section and see what they have to offer. I probably shouldn’t have, though, because I’ve just mentally spent several hundred dollars and had to invoke some serious self-restraint to not turn that into real money spent.
So instead, I’m going to keep my fingers busy typing and away from my wallet. But, uh, I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist one or two of these!
I want this duvet cover so badly, but unfortunately Corey and I have learned that with 3 dogs who all sleep with us, anything involving too much white is a no-go. We’ve actually debated this one a few times, but we always end up deciding that it’s just too much white for us and we really shouldn’t – we don’t have the energy to try to keep up with keeping that white nice and crisp!
If there was anything on this list that I was seriously SERIOUSLY tempted to buy, this would be it. Corey and I are wanting to bring some coral into our master bedroom and I have a serious crush on anything involving stripes, so this is a big temptation for me. If we had chosen a duvet cover, there’s no way I’d be able to resist, but I probably should wait on the sheets until we decide on the rest of the bedding!
Corey and I bought one of these a few weeks ago for the garage and it is so incredibly soft. I love curling up with it, and it’s the perfect weight for us – it’s thin and it breathes nicely, so I don’t get too warm, but it definitely keeps the chill off when Corey has the air conditioner blasting and the fan running!
I’ve always loved West Elm’s curtain options, and this one is one of my favorites. They’re usually way too expensive for my taste, but this is an awesome sale – Ikea and Target can’t even beat that price!
This is adorable! I don’t usually love perpetual calendars (there is just something about crossing a day off the calendar that makes my heart happy), but I might be able to let go of that for one of these guys.
These are so cute! I’ve developed a little bit of a problem with collecting various melamine plates, though, and I probably should slow it down until I have a better storage solution for them all. I’m definitely going to run out of room soon!
Corey and I almost bought these dishes around Christmas-time when we were looking for good Christmas dishes. I love the ones we ended up with, but it’s tempting to grab a few sets of these so we have options during the holidays!
It’s Friday! And that means I’m here with some Craigslist finds for my friend, Jenna. She emailed me and said that her and her family just moved and are looking for a few pieces for their new home – and that she’s willing to give the piece some love.
Jenna was specifically looking for a couple of side tables and for a credenza or dresser to use as a media console under her television. I also tossed in a few random pieces that I couldn’t resist, just because they’re awesome. I didn’t have much luck on the media console front (Craigslist is very iffy sometimes – you never know what you’ll find) but I did fine one piece that I think would be awesome for her!
We had a great one, and I’ll share all about it next week – but first up we’re going to browse the Santa Barbara Craigslist thanks to a request from Brittany. I found some super awesome stuff, and I’m totally jealous I don’t live there and I can’t buy that gorgeous china cabinet!
Enjoy your weekend! Anyone have an extra long one this week?
PS- If you’re around this weekend, you’re going to want to check out the new TV show Knock It Off! Monica and Jess from East Coast Creative Blog (who hosted the Creating With the Stars competition that Corey and I were a part of) are the designers and hosts of this new DIY/Home Design show and it premieres this Sunday at 7pm! Check out all the details here! I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to find it online somewhere since we don’t have cable!
This is such an awesome tip about cleaning wood pieces that are old and scratched/dried out. Who knew oil and vinegar could make such a huge difference! This is definitely going to make me think twice about some of those gorgeous but beat-up old dressers I stumble on sometimes – apparently it’s pretty simple to make them look a million times better!
LOVE THIS! I love door decorations, but I’m not a huge fan of wreaths at any time other than Christmas. This is such a cute and simple way to add a little fun to your front porch and I’m already dreaming about how I can adapt this for our house!
You guys know Jenny is moving right? Because I am SO EXCITED about her new house and I can’t wait to follow along and see how she makes it amazing. Between her new house, John & Sherry moving, and Daniel & Max’s new house I’m kind of wishing Corey and I were moving, too! Don’t worry, there aren’t actually any moving plans in our future, but all these awesome houses dripping with potential are making me jealous!
This outdoor table is amazing! I absolutely love the casual, rustic look and the full plans are included! I’m definitely saving this guy for when Corey and I finally get around to tackling our backyard – I’m hoping next summer!
It’s Friday! And I didn’t forget about you guys, I promise! Better late than never, right?
It’s been a busy week and I’m pretty relieved it’s over – my graduate school work is officially (finally!) finished. Which means now I can begin my real summer – all the relaxing, the projects, and the cleaning I’ve been neglecting. That is, if I can peel myself off the couch long enough to do it…my dogs get extra cuddly when I’m home all day!
But, thanks to all of my couch lounging, I have had a little bit of time to browse Craigslist, which means that I’ve got some exciting finds for you today – let’s jump right in, shall we?
Whew, it’s been quite a whirlwind week in our house, and I for one am super thankful that it’s Friday! My summer hasn’t technically “officially” started yet, as I’m still working every day for graduate school, but I only have two days of that left and as of next Wednesday I am officially on summer vacation – and hopefully I’ll regain a bit of my sanity when that happens!
It sounds dumb because I’m working much less than I do when school is in session, but since it’s summer I guess I feel like I should be relaxing more than I am? My house is a wreck, I don’t remember the last time I did laundry, and I just want to take a nap every time I get home from working.
Let’s just say I’ll be glad when it’s all over and I can get my house clean again!
Today we’re deviating a bit from the usual Friday Finds post, and we’re delving into the clearance section of Anthropologie. I was browsing it earlier and found a ton of super cute stuff for a steal, so I’m sharing the wealth!
Happy Friday! I’ve had a super busy first week of summer, with a training at school one day and lots of work on grad school hours. I’m hoping to finish all of that up over the next couple of weeks, though, and then the real summer relaxing can begin!
Today we’re checking out Craigslist finds in Chicago, thanks to a request from Chelsea. I found some awesome things and I’m totally wishing Chicago was road trip distance from Austin!
This is genius. Seriously – I am constantly digging around in my pantry, trying to see the things in the very back of the shelves, and there’s always that one thing I can never find no matter how hard I look. With something like this, though, you’d always be able to see everything – what a smart idea!
I love everything Sarah does, but this table seriously takes the cake. My eyes were popping out of my head while I was reading this post and I’m already trying to figure out how I can create something like this. Love, love, love. It’s perfect. Make me one, Sarah?
Tulips are my current favorite flower. They’re so pretty, simple, and I kind of want to coat my entire house in them all the time. I look for them every time I’m in the grocery store, and when they have them I can’t resist buying at least three or four bouquets. I absolutely LOVE the look of this – it makes them even prettier if that’s possible. I am determined to try this sometime soon!
Can you believe these are just plain ol’ pushpins? I love the creativity here – and it’s so simple! I don’t know that I’d ever actually have the patience for something like this, but it looks gorgeous – wouldn’t it be so great in an entryway?
Corey and I really want to do some raised garden beds in our backyard, and I LOVE the look of this. Plain wooden garden beds can get a little boring, and I think it’s such a smart idea to think outside the box and plant some stuff in a different kind of container. I also love the fence they have here – we’re going to have to do something like this once we get our beds started (because, um, three dogs).
Well, I’m off to get through the last (half) day of school before summer vacation! Let’s hope it goes by quickly.
