Welcome to Friday Finds, the post where I pretend like all the perusing I do at my favorite places online actually has a purpose. Today we’re browsing Craigslist!
It’s always so interesting to me to see the trends on Craigslist from week to week. Some weeks when I browse, it’s all cheap, laminate furniture for dirt cheap. Other weeks, it’s much more expensive furniture that’s all from a big-box store. It seems to ebb and flow a bit, and it’s always interesting to visit and see what kind of mix I’m going to get that day.
This week, I found a lot of higher-quality furniture, which meant a lot of it was more expensive. I’m a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to shopping on Craigslist, so I had to do a bit of searching in order to find pieces to share today, but they’re almost always there if you take the time to look for ’em!
Today we’ll be browsing Austin’s Craigslist, but if you have a reader request feel free to shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll add you to the queue…I’ll take any excuse I can get to peruse!
Please note that items may or may not be available any longer as of this posting. This post is intended more for inspiration and ideas, and it’s entirely possible that items featured here have already been sold.
Reclaimed Wood Headboard ($325)
This isn’t something that would fit into our house but I absolutely love it! I’m a big fan of the reclaimed wood look, and this could be absolutely stunning if it was placed in the right room with the right accessories. Plus, it’d be so cool to have a headboard with such a cool story – being saved from an old home!
Mid-Century Furniture Legs ($50 for two sets of four)
I have a bit of a love affair with all things mid-century so it’s no surprise that these caught my eye. $25 for a set of four is a great deal for these beautiful legs – they just need a little bit of cleaning and they’d be gorgeous! The other set is a dark wood, and they’d look great added to just about any piece of furniture.
Large Mirror ($25)
The mirror isn’t necessarily anything special (although, $25 for a mirror that large is an absolute steal!) but seeing this posting was a great reminder to myself that sometimes it’s a really good idea to search for “reduced” when you’re browsing Craigslist. This posting had recently had $10 knocked off of it, which means the seller is having a hard time selling it…which means they’re willing to negotiate! The people that have already gone in and reduced their asking price are likely more willing to haggle, and you may end up with an awesome deal!
Landscape Painting ($20)
I know, I know. It’s not actually a very pretty or modern piece at all. But as soon as I saw this painting I thought of this project from Young House Love a few years back. Wouldn’t something like that be perfect with this guy? For only $20, it’s worth a shot!
Large Rug ($70)
This rug clearly needs a good cleaning, but under $100 for a 6X9 rug that is this gorgeous is a great deal! This would look so pretty in our breakfast nook, and I bet with a professional cleaning job it would look as good as new! One thing to remember when you’re looking at Craigslist is to always factor in things like cleaning, painting, etc. to the cost of what you’re purchasing. For this rug, if you add the cost of a professional cleaning to it, it would probably still be a great deal. If it cost much more than it does, though, it would quickly lose the appeal!
What have you been stalking online lately? When I was preparing this post I saw a listing for a kelly green Eames chair, but there wasn’t a photo included…I was seriously tempted by it, though!
