I think I’ve shared a time or two that Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year.
Family. Decorations. Love. Celebrations. Presents. What more could you want?
But sometimes, Christmas feels a little bittersweet. This is one of those years. We recently found out that Corey’s brother, who is in the Army, was getting deployed. It was unexpected, and it hit Corey’s entire family pretty hard. He didn’t have a ton of time between finding out and having to leave, and he’s not going to be home for Christmas.
As hard as it was for Corey to know that his brother is leaving, I can’t even imagine what it must be like for his brother’s family. He’s married and has two children, and now they’ll be without their dad for the holidays.
We wanted to do something special for him before he had to leave, so a few days before he shipped out we decided to surprise him with a gift card. Now, typically I do not like to give gift cards for Christmas. I love shopping for Christmas gifts, and gift cards tend to take some of the fun and challenge out of it. But sometimes, like in this case, a gift card is the perfect gift.
There are countless places online where you can buy and send online gift cards, so choosing one is tricky. One of the fun parts about using TheGiftCardShop.com was that not only could we send a gift card, we could send a personalized little Santa video (for free!) along with our gift. There are two different options (for naughty gift recipients and nice ones) and they’re so cute. You can upload photos from your computer of the person you’re sending the gift to and of who it’s from, and you can input information (like name, age, interest, etc.) about the recipient and it will be incorporated into the video in a surprisingly seamless way to make it totally personalized.
It’s perfect for younger kids who still believe in Santa, and it’s pretty funny for adults too. It’s a really fun way to make a standard gift card feel a little more special, and who doesn’t love hearing from the big man himself?
I mean, really. I’m a little mad that these things didn’t exist when I was a kid because I would have lost my mind to get a video from Santa.
Anyways, we snagged him a GameStop gift card from TheGiftCardShop.com as a little surprise before he shipped out. He always stocks up on video games before he leaves to keep himself busy while he’s away, so we figured it was the perfect gift!
You don’t have to buy a gift card to make one of the personalized videos, so after I purchased the card I decided to try it out with Jackson. He’s obsessed with Santa this year and can’t get enough, so I thought it would be fun to make him a personalized video.
At first he wasn’t quite sure what to think, but once he saw his picture on the screen it totally made his day! I showed it to him on the day we went to see Santa, so it got him very pumped up for his visit!
So fun! I want to make him a video like this every year!
I know we all love a freebie, so you should know that if you purchase a $25 Applebee’s gift card, you can get a free triple chocolate meltdown dessert (YUM), and if you buy a $100 eBay gift card you can get a free personalized greeting card and an extra $5 eBay gift card!
Have you ever tried TheGiftCardShop.com? I think I want to make a Santa video for everyone I know!
