Well, tomorrow is December.
That doesn’t mean it’s winter yet, but it does mean it’s time to start thinking about all things Christmas. Which means my self-imposed deadline for our fall bucket list is here.
Did we do it?
Well, there were a couple of things that didn’t really happen. Like, soak up the fall foliage? You see, the problem is, I seem to have forgotten that Texas doesn’t have fall foliage.
So, instead, I soaked up the beautiful fall leaves and colors all over Instagram. And then I called it a day. That counts, right?
Oh, and go on a hayride? Well, we went on two fall train rides. Two! But we only had one chance at a hayride this year, and we passed it up. Why? I don’t know. We just did. So instead, we went on two mini train rides. Totally counts.
Other than that, we did it! Here are a few highlights:
We hit up a couple of pumpkin patches this year – one when it was still toasty outside and only felt marginally like fall, and we went again when there was a nice chill in the air and we could get some good family photos. I’m a big fan of the pumpkin patch photo. And Jackson’s a big fan of running around touching all the pumpkins. And Corey’s a fan of making both of us happy. So it’s a win-win-win.
The day we went to the farmer’s market was one of my favorite days of the entire fall season. It was freezing cold and slightly rainy. We got there as they were setting up (you get out of the house early with a toddler, y’all), and we grabbed some hot chocolate. We explored, we bought some produce, and Jackson got a cookie. Then we headed to Target for a bit of Christmas shopping. It was a fabulous, relaxing, quintessential fall day and I keep re-living it in my head. We probably wouldn’t have done it if the farmer’s market hadn’t been on our list!
We also had a blast at our church’s Halloween festival. We went last year and Jackson was a bit too young to really get anything out of it, but this year he was all about it. I think it will only get more fun as he gets older and actually understands the concept of Halloween! This year, the highlight of his day was going down the most giant slide ever with Corey. It was totally worth waiting in the ridiculous line.
And our list? Well it’s looking like it’s time to take it off the fridge (and I could probably take down the Halloween pictures from daycare too, I suppose…). Next stop? The Christmas bucket list! Get excited, people.
I know I am.
How was your fall season this year? I know it’s not over but it sure feels like it’s time for winter, doesn’t it?
