I know I’ve been promising nursery updates, and they’re totally happening, but it didn’t happen in time to share today so you’ll have to wait a bit longer. I spent most of the weekend dealing with intense back pain because I didn’t sleep in the exact perfect position on Friday night and apparently I didn’t realize how important my second body pillow was until I neglected to use it! I started feeling a little better on Sunday afternoon but it was too late for us to get any real work done – we’re hoping to tackle it during the week this week, though so I’ll update you as soon as I can!
So instead, I’m sharing a few small updates around the house. There hasn’t been much (or, uh, anything) happening around our house lately other than work in the nursery – things have been insane around here lately so we’ve put the brakes on most of our home updates. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t planning (we have a big one up our sleeves in the next few months, hopefully!) and that doesn’t mean I’m not dying to get some stuff done around the house. We’ve got a few new things here and there though, so let’s focus on what HAS changed!
I saw this little fox at Target a few weeks ago and had to have it. It spoke to me. Corey and I drooled over it and petted it a few times every time we walked past it, but we have been trying to limit our random purchases (I think a wood-carved fox just might fall under the “unnecessary” category), so we didn’t ever buy it. But when I got a gift card to Target for my birthday last week I knew this was going to be one of my purchases. I still haven’t decided exactly where it’s going to land yet, but I’m thinking about doing a bit of an overhaul with all of our accessories downstairs anyways, so when I get on that I’ll probably find a better spot for him. All I know is that he makes me smile!
Another thing that makes me smile (a lot!) are these new placemats we got on clearance at Target. We don’t have a lot of red/coral in our house but Corey loves the color so I’ve been trying to find ways to incorporate it more. I think these placemats are absolutely perfect and I love how they brighten up the table. I’ve been trying to collect more placemats and other little table setting accessories so it doesn’t have to look the same every time we have people over – we have plain white dishes for this very reason! I’m working on gathering up fun glasses, cloth napkins, bowls, and serving dishes so that I can switch things up whenever I want without having to buy all new dishes. These are definitely a good start.
We also bought some new plants. Our fiddle leaf fig officially died (boo!) so we headed to Lowe’s to find the most resilient plants we possibly could – both of these claim to need very minimal watering and their little tags indicated they basically like to be ignored, which is exactly what I need. After all, this little guy (who also likes to be ignored) is from Ikea a couple of years ago and he’s still going strong!
I just need really independent plants, apparently.
Mmmm quite possibly my favorite update of all. Corey and I have been lusting after these cute yellow stools from Target for a few months now ever since we first saw them, but we kept putting it off. Luckily, we ended up not having to worry about it because my awesome sister got them for me for my birthday! They are a perfect fit for our island and are way more comfortable than the old stools. And this area desperately needed some color, so these are completely perfect. I have found myself sitting at the island a LOT more since we got these, and sometimes I just gaze at them and smile. I love that they aren’t too bright but not too muted either – it’s a gorgeous mustard-y yellow and I think it’ll look even better once we tackle a few of the kitchen updates we’ve been chatting about lately…
And I think that’s it, for now! Like I keep saying, there are so many little things we’re talking about and planning on doing, it’s just a matter of squeezing it all into a weekend! I had hoped to accomplish a lot more this weekend, but Monster and my back had other ideas, so I spent a lot of time on the couch. Fingers crossed that next weekend is a little more productive!
What little changes have you been making around your house lately?
