A Box of Fresh Veggies

I mentioned on Twitter earlier this week that Corey and I (finally) joined a CSA – a community supported agriculture. We’ve been talking about doing it since last summer, but we just never actually signed up.

Now that the farmer’s markets are all back in full swing, though, it was on my brain again and we decided to go for it. We went through Johnson’s Backyard Garden and we picked up our first box on Saturday.

Basically, the idea is that every week (or every other week, which is what we are doing), you go pick up your box and it has a random assortment of fresh veggies from a local farm. We had a ton of stuff in ours, and even had one or two vegetables that we’ve never tried before.

We signed up for fresh eggs with our box, and I’m super excited to have farm-fresh eggs in the house again. They’re ridiculous. We may not keep them in our order for every box because they’re insanely expensive…but they’re soooo yummy!

I can’t wait to start trying out all of the stuff in our box, and I’m excited to see what the summer has in store for us! I have a feeling we’re going to love doing this.

Anyone else a part of a CSA? Any amazing veggie recipe recommendations?!

I almost signed up for Green Bean Delivery, which is very similar, except they deliver to your door for a set price each month and the boxes have everything from fruits and veggies to crackers and cereal. I think it’s a great idea! But I’m a kitchen failure so it would be useless for me :(

Hi, I’ve been lurking for a couple weeks now since CWTS – loving your blog!

We moved to San Antonio a few years ago and found a great service called Greenling based out of Austin. They’re technically a grocery delivery service, but they have all kinds of stuff from local farms all over this area. They have a local box which is a lot like a CSA box, but you can also pick and choose like a regular grocery service.

It’s nice for us because we can schedule it when we want, but sometimes I think it would be good to have to cook up some of those things we wouldn’t normally buy.

You’ll have to keep us posted on how you like the CSA!

That sounds awesome! We’re pretty excited to try it out- hopefully it forces us to eat a little healthier!
