Painted Pumpkins

Posted by Amanda under Handmade, Holidays, Home

I’m totally not a seasonal decorator. I don’t have any Easter decor, nothing to set out for fall, and I don’t even decorate for Halloween.

Christmas? That’s a totally different story. I go crazy for Christmas.

But all of those other seasons and holidays? I don’t really have anything for them and I’m not totally convinced I need anything. That may change in the future, but for now I like to keep it pretty simple.

BUT.

I couldn’t resist the painted pumpkin trend that’s blowing up the internet right now. It’s so incredibly cute, easy, and way less messy than carving them myself! So, I had Corey pick up a few pumpkins when he was at the grocery store the other day, and I knew we were in for something fun when he came back with about 6 pumpkins of different sizes, my favorite being the “fairytale” pumpkin that looks like it was pulled straight out of Cinderella.

Love it.

As you can see, we decided to paint the regular pumpkin black – originally we were going to do some sort of a design on it, like chevrons or stripes, but in the end we got lazy and decided that required too much work. So, we ended up carving out a face with tape and painting the rest of the pumpkin.

It was a super easy way to achieve the traditional pumpkin look, and I think the black looks so fun on the pumpkin! We decided to go with flat black paint instead of glossy, and I love how it turned out.

For the other little pumpkins, we decided to keep it simple and just spray paint ‘em purple. I think they turned out pretty dang adorable.

And that was all it took! All that was left to do was scatter them all around the house – we have a tiny (almost non-existent) front porch, so we kept the majority of them inside. Plus, I like that we get to enjoy them a little more this way!

Do you decorate for the seasons? Anyone else painting (or carving!) pumpkins this year?

So cute!! I always get overly ambitious with my pumpkin carving abilities, but I think I can handle paint!

I really like the tiny purple pumpkins! Don’t know if you’re into Batman, but they immediately reminded me of the Joker. :) We’re working on painting a pumpkin too, but we chose a faux one so we can enjoy our handiwork for years to come. Our real pumpkins are going to stay au naturale this year, I think!

I love the ones on your mantel! I don’t think I’ve carved a pumpkin since my school days, but am thinking about doing something with a couple of fake pumpkins so that I can pull them out in the years to come.

I love painting pumpkins! Watch the little ones on your mantle – they mold with a quickness. We had to repaint our mantle last year after a few of ours molded on the bottom and we didn’t realize it.

I am the same way – obsessed, and only really decorate for Christmas. Snowmen are by favorite thing, and I have wayyyyy more than I need in decorations.

I do love the painted pumpkin look though. Did you paint the white ones, or did they come that way?

I love how the painted pumpkins turned out on your mantle! They are a pretty pop of color!
