A few weekends ago during the great air conditioning tragedy of 2012, Corey and I spent a night at his parents’ house so that we didn’t have to hang out in the 100+ degree heat in our own home. I’ve been to their house approximately three billion times, but I hadn’t ever really taken a lot of time to look around and take in all of the decor and accessories.
My mother-in-law takes a very eclectic approach to decorating in her own home – there is no real color scheme or theme throughout the house, and the entire house is filled to the brim with tchotchkes, furniture, and art. The night that we spent there, I walked around the house for a while with my camera and took the time to just take it all in. I was surprised by how many things I fell in love with and how inspired I was feeling after I finished, so I thought today it might be fun to take a little tour on all of the random things that made me smile in my in-laws’ house.
Please excuse the poor photo quality and lighting – I was taking these at night because it had been such a crazy day! Let’s start with all of the random objects and accessories that I found throughout the house. There were several that I seriously considered just tossing in my bag on our way out the door – she has so many she may never have noticed!

One of my favorite things about all of these pieces is that I can guarantee you they aren’t random, cheap items from a home decor store – Corey’s parents have done a lot of traveling, and most of these items are from all over the globe!
Next up, let’s check out some of the cool art they have on the walls. Like this really old gorgeous map of Texas (or, what used to be Texas at least)!

And these gorgeous baskets…

And, of course, the gallery walls. Oh, the gallery walls – my mother-in-law is the queen of them! If she had it her way, I think that every inch of wall in her entire home would be covered in something. And I love that she’s not at all picky about what she hangs up. It doesn’t have to be formal “art” or anything special. There are several large pieces of artwork from Corey’s elementary school days, a ton of movie and concert posters, and just generally a lot of cute, sentimental things. I love it!

Whew. That’s a lot of gallery walls, no?
Finally, I want to show you some of the furniture that makes me drool every time I go to their house. There are some seriously gorgeous pieces there, and I’m hoping some day she will let me steal some of them!

Can you believe that camel table? I want to get some white spray paint on that sucker and place it in the middle of my living room where I can fawn over it daily. And that blue chair next to it is actually one that has already been promised to us very soon – we can’t wait to get our hands on it! It will look absolutely perfect in our bedroom!
And that’s what I’ve got for you today. A random, eclectic tour of my in-laws’ house and all of the fun furnishings and accessories they’ve filled it with!
What does your in-laws’ house look like? Anyone else taken a minute to enjoy the decor of someone else’s house lately, even if it’s basically the opposite of how you decorate?

That camel table would look pretty awesome in white. My mil’s style has influenced my own. They’ve had a few different homes over the length of our relationship and I love seeing what she does each time.

24. September - 7:23 amOver the weekend, I visited friends who just moved up to Dallas, and their apartment was so cute! Moreso than people’s furniture or decor, I get inspired by their color choices. They had this beautiful dusky red-orange accent wall with chocolate brown and dark burgundy furniture, and it was so pretty!
