New Lamps, and Some Flowers

Posted by Amanda under Master bedroom, Updates

So, today is the first day of school.

Yuck.

Thanks to an insane amount of prep work in the last two weeks for the beginning of school, as well as Corey starting a new job, we have had basically zero time to breathe, much less complete any projects. So, today I thought I’d do a quick roundup of a few fun new things we’ve picked up lately, including some new lamps for our bedroom!

Let’s start in the kitchen – I’ve been telling Corey for a long time that I want to pick up a few (realistic) faux flowers for around the house, because I love having flowers around but I’m awful at actually taking care of them. So, when we were at Target and all of my favorite faux flowers were on clearance, I knew we had to pick some up. We grabbed a pretty orange dahlia and two faux succulents, as well as this cute green vase.

The only problem was that the flowers were entirely too big to fit in the vase without some modifications, so Corey took them out to the workshop and used his saw to cut ‘em down a bit (and yes, we tried scissors and even wire cutters, but these flowers were INTENSE). Then I plopped them in the vase and just like that I had a cute little arrangement to brighten up my kitchen.

It’s just a little touch, but our kitchen can use all of the help it can get!

We also recently decided that we wanted to switch up the lamps in our bedroom – we love the fun yellow ones, but we wanted something a bit more classic and neutral so that we can begin to build the gallery wall above our bed without worrying about that wall looking too crazy.

We’ve been drawn to super simple, clear glass lamps for a while now, and Target recently started carrying them, so when we were there getting our faux flowers we also headed over to the lamp aisle to see what we could find. Only, when we got over there we found that the ones we wanted were $39.00 without the shade. Womp womp. Call us cheap, but spending about $130 on new lamps once we added in the shades was just not our idea of a good time, and we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. Luckily, we remembered that Ikea carries basically the exact same lamp for a bit cheaper, so we headed over there to see if we could snag a better deal at Ikea.

Um, yeah – we got our new lamps and the shades for $40 each – definitely closer to what we were wanting to spend!

We love how the lamps look in the room and they make me smile every time I see them. I’ve been lusting after these babies for a while now, so it’s exciting for finally have ‘em!

Hopefully since next weekend is a long one, we’ll be able to take some time and actually get a project or two done! I’m itching to flex my DIY muscles again – it’s just been so tough lately with the complete lack of time!

Anyone else been to busy to do the things you love lately? Or find any awesome deals on something you were buying?

I was also at Ikea in Round Rock this weekend! A friend of mine is starting grad school at UT, and had never been to one. The new lamps are cute!

Aw, fun! Ikea is basically my happy place, haha. Of course, it’s so huge that we may have been there at the same time and never known!

Loving the new lamps! I’ve been looking for new lamps for a while too. I love that these can be transformed just by switching up the lamp shade. Great find!
