Corey and I have been looking for a good piece for our entry way for a while now. We know exactly what we want, and have been actively searching for the perfect thing to fill the space. We were incredibly excited this past week when we thought for sure we had found it. We travelled about 45 minutes to an antique store that had posted a beautiful antique buffet on Craigslist for an insanely affordable price, happily loaded it up into our car, and drove home.
And then we brought it inside and realized that it’s entirely too big for the space and won’t work.
Boo! It’s hard to tell in the photo exactly how wrong for the space it is, but in person it’s way too tall, way too long, and invades the space of whoever is coming in the front door, making thing very awkward (especially if you’re carrying anything). We tried a few different spots around the room to see if we could make it work somewhere else and then spent about 20 minutes just staring at it hoping that we would come up with a brilliant use for it. It’s so, so beautiful and it breaks my heart to have to let it go.
Luckily, my parents decided that they love it just as much as we do and are going to buy it from us to put in their home – so at least I’ll get to fawn over it occasionally when Corey and I go to visit them. And from now on, if I think I’ve found the perfect spot for any space in our home I’ll suppress my excitement long enough to measure, measure, measure before I bring it home!
Have you ever brought something home, only to realize it totally doesn’t work in your house?
