My BFF, Craig

Posted by Amanda under Home, Ramblings

It’s well-established around here that I have a bit of a love affair with Craigslist. I chat about the amazing things I find weekly, I’m constantly browsing and buying, and I really just can’t get enough. But what I haven’t talked about much is that I don’t only like to buy on Craigslist – I like to sell stuff, too!

This past week Corey and I finally went through the garage and sold several old pieces of furniture and small appliances that we had sitting around and weren’t using anymore, and we were left with a nice little unexpected chunk of change with no designated purpose. So, we did our favorite thing in the world – headed out and started shopping!

We ended up with quite the little collection of fun new things, so I thought I’d share today. Let’s start with all those glasses.

We have been looking for some stemless wine glasses for a while now, and when we saw these beauties at Crate & Barrel for only $20 for a set of 8, we knew it was meant to be. We had some beautiful, thin-stemmed wine glasses that Corey bought me for my birthday a couple of years back, but they were so fragile that we were constantly breaking them – we started off with 6 and are down to only 3 left, and we just didn’t want to stock back up on glasses that we were terrified of shattering. We both like the look of the stemless glasses, and we like that they’re a bit more casual and low maintenance – much more “us”!

We also picked up some new drinking glasses from Crate & Barrel – Corey bought a couple of small glasses in this pattern a few months back and we have really loved them, so we decided to finish out our set. Previously, we just had kind of a mish-mash of random sets of glasses, none of which we really loved – now we’ve narrowed down our collection a bit and it’s finally cohesive! We ended up with 8 of the big glasses, and 2 of the smaller ones (so we have 4 total now).

After we left Crate & Barrel we headed over to Anthropologie. Despite our bad luck with some of their stuff in the past, I’m still in love with that store and nothing can keep us apart. It was the first time I had been in since we threw away our old bedding from them, and I think the store was trying to make up with me…because we scored big! We found these gorgeous geometric dishtowels in the clearance section and bought two sets.

They have most of the colors that we use throughout our house in them, and they have all of the colors we plan to eventually incorporate into our kitchen, so they are perfect for us! And they are so incredibly plush and soft – I’m almost afraid to use them!

We also found this adorable vintage-key-shaped bottle opener for only $7, and since Corey lusts after anything vintage-key-related, we had to have it.

We also bought that orange pillow from Target because we desperately are in need of some new ones. We go through throw pillows like nobody’s business in our house, and I’m pretty sure it has something everything to do with Ranger, who insists on laying on the couch like this:

Yeah – when he’s not shoving the pillows onto the floor, he’s sprawling himself across them, ensuring that his body is touching as many throw pillows as physically possible. So, needless to say, pillows go flat pretty quickly around here!

We also picked up a pretty white serving dish from Crate & Barrel, and a ton of paint and hardware for various projects we have brewing, but those things aren’t really exciting enough to photograph so I left ‘em out.

And that, my friends, is why you should never neglect the power of buying AND selling on Craigslist! We have a couple more pieces of furniture up right now that I’m hoping will sell soon – I’m already dreaming of what I might buy next!

Do you sell stuff on Craigslist often? Made any fun, random purchases lately?

We’re getting ready for a 1500 mile move, so we’re currently using “Craig” a LOT to get rid of furniture that won’t fit with our new home’s style. I have to say, the process can be frustrating at times-I exchanged 8 emails with a potential buyer, giving her every ounce of info about our patio set (some of which I had to legitimately research!), and she then just disappeared. I know you have to weed through a lot of people to get buyers, but it can be frustrating. On the other hand, we’ve sold a lot of stuff and can now by a nice sectional couch four our new home! You win some, you lose some with Craig!!

        LOVE that pillow you got!

And we’ve yet to sell anything on Craigslist, since my husband is paranoid about having people come to our house. But I did buy my current car from a Craigslist ad, and I love trolling for furniture, especially after you shared that Craigs Easy tool!

I am in the process of weeding out for a yard sale. Whatever doesn’t sell will NOT come back in this house. The making money part is nice but clearing out junk MIGHT be even better, no? :) Great finds…and I just scrolled down to find your comforter disaster; yikes! I hope you contacted someone at Anthro–I wonder how their customer service would be for stuff like that.

How fun is that key opener? Very cute. I’m also a CL buyer and seller! That’s where I unloaded my piano, for $50 more than I paid for it off CL the first time ;)

Hehe, I know about the short lives of pillows all to well – our dog does just about the same thing :-) And he is pretty big so the pillows hardly stand a chance ;-)

I’m pretty sure we have those exact same water glasses.

We are so much more likely to donate to a shelter or charity than sell our stuff on Craigslist. It’s a mix of not wanting to bother with the hassle and being concerned for our safety (living with just girls makes us overly cautious about things).

Those dang RING glasses are the best things ever. So sturdy, wash so well, and don’t even chip and break when you knock them down :)
