This weekend, Corey and I finally got around to visiting a farmer’s market close to us that we’ve been wanting to try for months. We went to a small open-air market a while back, but it didn’t have many options and, while we enjoyed it, we were left hoping to find something a little better.
Luckily, we weren’t even a little bit disappointed. We brought along $20 and challenged ourselves to spend only that, and we were pretty amazed with all that we were able to buy.
We got a big (beautiful!) bunch of swiss chard, a bunch of beets, a tomato, a cucumber, a pound of squash, and a super tasty-looking ham steak from a wild hog. We’re so excited to try it all, and we’ve decided that we’d like to try visiting every Saturday with $20 to buy our produce for the week – it’s so much better than what we’ll find at the grocery store, and we’re a lot more likely to try new things from the market than we would be from the grocery store.
Another little bonus? We were able to cross off “Visit a farmers market” on our 101 in 1,001 list! We hadn’t crossed it off after the last one we visited becuase we didn’t feel like it really counted with how small it was – but this one was definitely a full-blown farmer’s market and we can’t wait to try it again!
Have you ever visited a farmer’s market? Tried any fun new vegetables lately?
