I know. Valentine’s Day was two weeks ago. I have no excuse for why I’m just now talking about it, but here we are.
Corey and I definitely aren’t big Valentine’s Day people – our anniversary is just a month before V-Day and we do lots of celebrating then (our dating anniversary was even closer than our wedding anniversary is), so it’s never been something that was very important to us. In the past, we’ve usually exchanged very small (usually homemade) gifts and cooked a nice dinner. We skipped the gifts this year, and just spent an evening together cooking and relaxing. It was pretty fantastic.
I am by no means a food photographer, so please pardon the wonky colors and all around non-appetizing look of this photo. I promise the food was wonderful.
For our Valentine’s Day feast, we cooked some steaks and made an herb compote butter to go with them, made some crock-pot scalloped potatoes, and grilled up some yellow squash and zucchini.
And since Valentine’s Day is alternately known as Stuff-Your-Face-With-Chocolate Day, we also made this (ridiculously wonderful) molten chocolate cake.
Again – it doesn’t look appetizing, but I promise it was. Maybe I should just stop taking photos of food – it’s obviously not my strong suit.
And that was our Valentine’s Day. Simple, relaxing, and perfect.
What do you and your partner do for Valentine’s Day?
P.S. Have you heard of The Homies? They’re Apartment Therapy home blog awards, and voting is happening right now through March 2. There are some seriously amazing blogs up for the awards (some of my absolute favorites are up there!) and we’re up there with ’em!
No, I’m not crazy, and I’m fully aware that my little old blog has no hope against the likes of Little Green Notebook and Centsational Girl, but it would be fabulous if you could show my blog some love and vote for me! I’m listed in both the Home Design and DIY categories, and you can vote by clicking on the links, registering (I promise it only takes about 30 seconds) and clicking on the “Vote” button next to our name. It would make my day (month? year?) to see Love & Renovations jump up a few notches on the list, so I promise to be your best friend forever if you take a couple of minutes to vote for me!
