That’s right – today we’re taking a trip all the way up to Ottawa, Ontario for Friday Finds!
Kelli e-mailed me and expressed how she was frustrated that everything in her city’s Craigslist seemed to be either from Ikea or straight out of her grandmother’s house. I definitely feel that way sometimes about Austin’s Craigslist (I think that’s safe to say about ANY Craigslist!) but I’m a big believer in the idea that every Craigslist has some awesome furniture, and I was definitely able to find a few things in Ottawa that I’d consider driving across the country for! Of course, I’d be lying if I said that a lot of these pieces wouldn’t be found in your grandma’s house, but I personally think grandmas have some awesome hidden gems that just need a little love!
I know, I know. I’m starting off with an expensive one. But oooooooh my goodness I love it. According to the listing it was purchased in Israel in the ’60s and it looks like it’s incredibly long with a ton of storage. Something like this would look fantastic in an entryway or used as a buffet. I love, love, love it. So much.
This would be 10 feet of cabinets PLUS a granite countertop. For $500. Seriously? I might drive up to Canada myself just so I can take advantage of this deal. The cabinets look like they’re in great condition, and I love the style of them. And, um, who doesn’t love a classic black granite countertop?
Yes, you read that right. Four chairs for twenty bucks – if you aren’t good with math, that’s $5 a chair (I’m a teacher, so I’m good at these things). They obviously need some love (and some new fabric) but these would look amazing painted in a fun color with some cute fabric. Hell, for twenty bucks it’s almost impossible to turn them down!
I’d definitely have to chop the top trim part off of this guy (with the swirly heart shaped cut-out) but I think it has potential! It’s a cute little bookcase and has some hidden storage, which is always fantastic. I think it looks a bit too shabby chic in white, but I think a bright color would work wonderfully with it – or even glossy black or gray. Anything to make it a little more modern, and I think this could look amazing!!
Um, these pendants are amazing. That black one kills me – it is so much fun and I think it would make a huge impact in a room! I picture it hanging over the dining table in a super modern dining room – it is such a statement piece! And I love how sleek and modern the other one is. Plus, um, $75 for two pendant lights is an incredible deal!
I have a think for wicker baskets right now, so I was immediately drawn to this unique dresser. I’ve never seen a dresser with wicker drawers before, and I love how much texture this could add to a room! I’d probably paint the outside and leave the wicker alone for a two-tone look, but it would probably be easy to spray paint the wicker too if you didn’t like the wood. I think this is such an unexpected piece – it would look fantastic in a bedroom, or even in a large bathroom for some extra storage!
Mmm. We all know I’m a sucker for a good brass bed, and this one fits the bill perfectly. It comes with a matching footboard and I’m in love with it. The lines on it are gorgeous and I love how it’s more of an understated brass bed (in contrast to our large-and-in-charge one). Someone give this guy a home, please?!
And that, my friends, concludes our trip up to Canada! I’m kind of jealous of all of the things I found there today – this whole experiment is definitely making me wish I had the ability to fly all over the country (well, continent, really) to pick up furniture whenever I wanted to. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Are you guys as ready for this weekend as I am? Doing anything fun for Superbowl Sunday?
