I have to admit, I was a little nervous when I got a very specific e-mail from Mandy asking that I help her track down some sort of media console from the living room. Here’s what she said:
“I LOVE the way you turned a dresser into a media console, but my husband thinks its weird to put a dresser into a living room. Ugh! So, we need a media console for when we get our flat screen TV (we will be mounting it on the wall) and I have struck out finding something affordable (I would prefer to not pay more than $100, but am willing to pay more for the right piece) and made of real wood. “
After last week’s crazy expensive venture into the Philadelphia Craigslist, let’s just say I was more than a little skeptical that I’d be able to find something for Mandy. But me and Craig? We’re BFFs and he and his list totally came through for me once again.
I love that this one has a mix of cabinets and drawers. I know Mandy’s husband is against a dresser, but I have to say that Corey and I love having drawers in our media console and they can just be so much more convenient than shelving sometimes! I think a mix like this is absolutely perfect. The dark wood is very heavy as it is, but this would look fantastic painted in almost any color (I’d probably go for white, but that’s not surprising to you, now is it?) and I think that with some more modern drawer pulls it could look fantastic!
This one is a little bit different, and I love the detailing on the door fronts. I definitely wouldn’t leave this one alone (it’s begging for some paint in a fun color) but I kind of like that it has a countertop on it instead of being solid wood on top. It adds a really unexpected element and is a great way to bring in a new material!
This one is one the small side (and on the pricey side as well) but I couldn’t resist including it because it’s just so adorable. I adore the turned legs and that pretty circle detail on the doors. This is one that I’d probably be tempted to leave as is because the finish seems to be in such great condition. This one might not be the best idea for a media console, but I think it could be stunning in an entryway under a pretty mirror!
Um, seriously. This one is twenty-five bucks. I adore the mid-century feel it has (I’m a sucker for tapered legs!) and while it doesn’t look like the finish is in great condition, it would probably be pretty easy to fix. I think it could be fun (and unexpected) to paint it a bright color (or, you know, white) since you don’t see that often with this style of furniture. I also love the hardware on the doors!
This one isn’t a style that I’m typically drawn to but there’s just something about it that speaks to me. I like the detailing on the door fronts and while it’s hard to see in the photo, I think that hardware is fantastic! This is one that could probably be left alone (it’s definitely on the traditional side, but if the rest of the room is styled right, it could look amazing) but I think it would also look great painted. I love it!
I think this one is my favorite of them all. It fits right in the budget, it’s a great size, and it has a ton of storage options! I love the clean, simple lines on it and I think the color is beautiful! This is definitely another one of the options that could either be left alone or re-stained or painted. It is very versatile and I think it would look fantastic in almost any room. I kind of want it myself!
Okay, I know this one is a dresser. But it’s $25! And it has adorable legs and beautiful details on the drawers. And it would look ridiculously amazing painted in almost any color. I LOVE it and I think someone needs to buy it. Please?
See? Craigslist delivers once again! I think there are a ton of really great options here for Mandy, and I hope that she likes one of them enough to pull the trigger!
On another note, I’m beyond excited that the weekend is about to start. I’m convinced that someone added a day or two to this week and didn’t tell me about it, because this has been the longest week I’ve ever experienced in my life. So glad it’s over!
How was your week? Are you looking forward to the weekend as much as I am? And, more importantly, which console do you think Mandy should buy?
