I’m so excited to launch the reader requested Friday Finds this week! For those of you who missed it last week, Corey and I are now taking requests to do a Friday Finds of the Craigslist in your area – we got a ton of requests after our post last week, and I can’t wait to check out all of the different areas and see what we can find!
Today’s request comes from Dana at What the Frock? Dana is looking for sleek, Danish modern furniture in Philadelphia, and oh em gee did Craigslist deliver! People in Philly seem to be a bit more attached to their furniture than people in my neck of the woods (so the finds this week aren’t nearly as affordable as I’m used to seeing), but they sure do have some amazing stuff. Let’s get to it!
I am a complete and total sucker for all things Eames. These chairs are probably the only thing I’d ever be willing to spend such an obscene amount of money on, and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t considered actually spending a similar amount on an Eames chair for our home. I absolutely love the wire look, and I think these chairs would add such an incredibly fun texture to a room. Corey and I actually plan to find a similar chair (a knock off, since we can’t actually make ourselves spend $300 per chair) for our breakfast table in the kitchen, and I can’t wait until we get them – they’re going to look fantastic!
I know this guy doesn’t really fit into the “mid century” theme that Dana was looking for but I absolutely couldn’t resist including it. I have a total crush on bar carts right now, and I am obsessed with the giant wheels on this one. I picture it in a dining room with some cute bar accessories and a fun vintage-y print hanging over it. This is one of those pieces that could absolutely make a room if it’s styled correctly!
I see these little two-tiered tables on my Craigslist all the time and I always linger for a few minutes on them. I think I might love them a little bit. This style of table is definitely something that could push a room a little too far into mid-century if you aren’t careful with it, but with some more contemporary furniture and some colorful accessories, this would be such a fun piece to have in a living room! And, seriously, for twenty bucks it’s almost impossible to resist!
Okay, these last few pieces are kind of insanely expensive. But holy crap. I will probably be dreaming about them tonight. This dresser slays me – the lines on it are absolutely beautiful and I adore the detail on the legs and the cabinet doors on the side. It looks like it’s a nice, large size and I think it would look perfect in any room. I’m usually drawn to darker wood tones, but there is just something about the light color of this dresser that I really, really love. I want it.
I’m not even a little bit ashamed to admit that I completely freaked out when I saw this. I might have even shed a tear. Call me crazy, but I’d totally spend $1,000 on this (you know, if I HAD a thousand dollars) because I’m just that obsessed with it. The hairpin legs are to die for, and I love the asymmetrical shelving. I also love the size and shape of it – you don’t usually find bookcases that look like this – they’re usually tall and skinny, and when they are this shape they usually sit much lower to the ground. I can already picture how amazing this would look in our living room, and I wish I could afford to have it shipped to me. I’m in love. Seriously.
I couldn’t resist including this clock because I’ve never seen anything like it and I think it’s kind of amazing. It’s five feet tall and reminds me of a super modern take on a grandfather clock. This is such a statement piece, and I love how unique it is! It also has some open shelving on the back for storage – I’m not sure that I would actually use it to display anything, but it’s always awesome to have some hidden storage, am I right?
I had a blast getting to check out a different Craigslist for once, and it was fun to see that (aside from the higher price tags) a lot of the things I found were really similar to things I would find around here. I can’t wait to see what we’ll find in the other cities we’ll be checking out!
While we’re on the subject of expensive furniture – what are some things that you’d be willing to shell out big bucks for? Is there a certain designer that you love (I’m always longing after a good Eames chair!) or a style that you’d just love to have, no matter the cost?
