I don’t normally do “brain dump” type posts – but there’s always an exception to every rule, no?
As I mentioned on Friday, I’m finally on Christmas break from work and I get two glorious weeks off – which my body decided to kick off by promptly getting sick, so I’ve been curled up on the couch surrounded by tissues for most of the weekend. I didn’t get much done this weekend worth blogging about, but I have a few random things floating around in my head that aren’t worthy of a full post, so I figure now is the perfect time to share.
– First up, we’ve been loving our activity advent calendar. We started Friday afternoon by making a list of all of the Christmas cookies we’ll be baking later this week, then on Saturday we took a family photo, and last night we started a fire in our fireplace and roasted some s’mores. We’re loving that we get to do something Christmas-y every day leading up to Christmas, and it’s so exciting every morning to flip over the card to see what’s on the agenda for the day.
– I know I said I didn’t do much this weekend but that may have been just a little lie. I did do something. It’s not ready to share yet, but I can give you a little sneak preview of what’s to come.
I know it’s not much to go on, but trust me when I say it’s something to be excited about. I know I am.
– A few weeks ago, Corey and I discovered that we have rose bushes in our backyard. I don’t know why we never realized it before (probably because neither of us knows anything at all about plants) but we were thrilled when we walked around the side of our house to see these beauties. They’ve since died, but I can’t wait to read up on how to take care of them so we can be sure they’ll survive and bloom again next year!
– I’ve been having an absolute blast enjoying the first holiday season in our new home. There’s just something special about being in your own home for Christmas. Corey and I haven’t been able to experience that in years (and never in our OWN home – always our parents’ or other family members’ homes) and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s so fun to start new traditions that I know we’ll be able to carry out for years to come, and it’s amazing to be so close to family at this time of year – I love getting to experience the excitement of the holidays through my nieces!
And that’s all I’ve got for you today. I’m going to spend my day resting up and hopefully I’ll have something of substance to share later this week (trust me, I have a few exciting things up my sleeve)! Things are getting a bit chaotic in our house since we’re now officially left with less than a week until Christmas (OMG!) and we’re trying to squeeze every last bit of enjoyment out of our first Christmas as a married couple. We have plans this week to watch a few of our favorite Christmas movies (already watched Babes in Toyland, so I believe The Grinch is next on the agenda), bake an embarrassing amount of cookies, and go look at Christmas lights – I can’t wait!
Okay, so I shared all the random thoughts going through my head – it’s your turn. What’s on your mind?
