Now that it’s December, I feel like I can finally talk about Christmas constantly without people thinking I’m crazy. Maybe it’s because I’m a teacher and will get two weeks off for Christmas, but the upcoming holiday is on my brain all the freaking time. I’m so excited for it that it’s a little pathetic, and I just wish it would hurry up and get here!
Since it’s not going to actually come any faster (no matter how much I beg!) let’s enjoy some of the amazing Christmas-related finds I’ve found around the internet this week.
I’ve been wanting an advent calendar, and there are about a billion amazing ideas out there for them. Currently, I’m feeling particularly drawn to this cute one from Target, because I love the little nooks to hide candy or a surprise. When I was growing up, my grandparents always had little Santa Claus ornaments on their tree that could be opened up to reveal Hershey Kisses. My cousins and I would always make several trips a day to the tree to sneak a piece of candy or two, and the memories of how special that was to me are so precious. I’ve been thinking about a way I can pay homage to that tradition in my own home, and I think having an advent calendar like this with a few Kisses hidden in each box would be perfect!
I’m seriously longing for some Christmas pillows to trade out on our couch during the holiday season, and I think a couple of these would be absolutely perfect. They’re not too cheesy or Christmas-y, and I love the slightly rustic feel they have. I can just picture how fabulous they would look hanging out on our couch and how much Christmas spirit they would add to the room!
Another favorite Christmas tradition of mine is baking Christmas cookies. My sister and I always make a ridiculous amount of cookies to bring to our grandparents’ house for Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and baking them together is one of the things I look forward to the most every single year. We have a few types that we make every year (including one that always has at least one of us cursing furiously for a good hour or so because it’s so dang difficult) and we also make sure to try out some new ones each year too. It’s such a fun and special tradition, and I’ve been having a blast starting to scope out the cookies I want to make this year!
How amazing are these bay leaf trees from Pottery Barn?! I love the texture they have and how perfect the bay leaves look as a Christmas tree. These are ridiculously expensive, but I imagine it would be pretty simple to create your own with a styrofoam tree form, some bay leaves, and a hot glue gun. I just might have to try this out sometime soon!
Corey and I don’t have any of the old keys from previous homes we’ve lived in, but if we did I would absolutely be hanging them up on our Christmas tree. I think this is such a unique way to honor all of the places your family has lived, and I think the keys would add so much to the tree. Maybe I’ll have to track down a random key and pretend like it belongs to our old duplex – no one will know the difference, right?
I’m feeling so inspired by all of the amazing Christmas decorations and ideas I’ve been seeing lately, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to tackle some more Christmas related projects soon. Now if only Christmas would hurry up and get here!
What’s been inspiring you lately?
