More appropriately, an example of really bad scale.
This little white table (that we snagged from Home Goods earlier this year) is currently sitting right next to our entry way in the living room. And, as you can see, it is entirely too small for the space (as is the mirror that hangs above it). I think this is a perfect example of an area that is begging for a large piece of furniture and a nice, tall mirror rather than this dinky little white table and hung-too-high (ahem, Corey) mirror.
What do I picture for this area? A much longer and slightly taller console table with either a white finish or maybe even a glass or mirrored finish. Then, above it I imagine a large, ornate mirror in a faded gold finish, along with maybe a few baskets underneath the console to store my purse and any shoes that don’t make it to their proper place. Corey and I are definitely learning to adjust our furniture and our design choices to the scale of our rooms – we aren’t used to such large rooms and tall ceilings, but hopefully we’ll eventually strike a nice balance that will make the rooms feel like they’re a bit more properly scaled.
Do you have any furniture that’s way too small for your house?
