Oh, our entry way. So small. So boring. So desperately in need of some love.
I’ve always had a big crush on large, grand entry ways, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t kind of disappointed when our house didn’t come with one. Luckily, I think that our little bitty entry way has just enough potential that I can make it live up to my dreams. We’re going to live through this winter season with the coat rack there and see how often we use it (our coat closet is right up the stairs, so it’s not too much of a hassle to get to it) and if we feel like we can get rid of it, I’d like to add a large piece of artwork to that area right behind the door. Perhaps we’ll even move our giant Ikea mirror to that area. As far as flooring, we plan to eventually have wood floors throughout our house, but we plan to keep this little area tiled. We haven’t decided exactly what type of tile we’ll use, but I imagine something with a fun shape in nice color – maybe a blue?
Another thought I’ve had is that I might like to do something fun with the ceiling in this area. This little entry way is the only spot in the living room that doesn’t have angled ceilings, and I think that adding a fun ceiling treatment to the area will make it feel more like a defined entry way and less like just an extension of the living room.
And, of course, the boob light has to go. We don’t have any ideas yet on what we’ll replace it with yet, but I know it will be something fun and eye-catching!
My hope is that someday we can create a beautiful, defined entry way that feels almost as grand as the large ones I’ve always longed for. It’s going to be a tough task, but I think Corey and I are up for the challenge!
What’s your take on entry ways? Do you like ’em large and in charge, or more subtle and blended with the rest of the room?
