What you’re looking at are the bi-fold doors that lead to our laundry
room closet. In comparison to all of the other ugly features of our kitchen (like the weird textured walls, the impossible-to-keep-clean linoleum, and the country, fruit-y backsplash) these doors really aren’t that offensive. They’re nothing special, but they work.
But, I’m sure you’ve learned by now that “nothing special” doesn’t really work for Corey and I. We’ve got big plans for this little area of our kitchen. We definitely don’t plan on keeping these doors, and we haven’t been able to find any replacement bi-fold doors that we actually like, so we’re going in a totally different direction. We plan on (someday) changing up the opening of the laundry closet so that it’s a bit smaller, and building a barn-style door (like this) to replace the bi-folds. Most of our plans for the kitchen include relatively neutral colors, but we plan on having this barn door be a focal point with a bright, punchy color (probably yellow, as per usual around here). We figure if we have to have something back there that’s going to take up so much room, it might as well be visually attractive, and since this area of the kitchen won’t have a ton to look at, it will be a nice way to make it feel a bit more cohesive.
Plus, I’ll take any excuse I can get to add a barn door to my house.
How do you feel about bi-fold doors? Do you have any in your house that you’re dying to get rid of?
