A Brighter Bed

Posted by Amanda under Updates

Much, much brighter.

Corey and I have been planning for a while to update the bedding in our bedroom. We absolutely love the white look, but it was way too hard to keep up with, and quite frankly I wanted something that packed a little more punch. We’re not believers in the whole serene, relaxing bedroom idea. I want my bedroom to make me smile.

And we found some new bedding that does just that.

We stumbled on this bedding one day when we were browsing the clearance section of Anthropologie. We agreed that we really liked it, but we weren’t sure how it would look in our room – our walls are such a bold color that we were worried that a brightly-colored bedspread would just compete with the walls. Well, we couldn’t stop thinking about it, so a few days later we headed back and bought it with the reassurance that we could return it if we put it in the room and hated it.

We totally don’t hate it.

Fun, right?

It’s called the Shanti Paisley quilt, and we absolutely love the giant burst of color it brings to the room, and we love that it goes with the wall color without looking too matchy-matchy.

It’s definitely one of those design choices that not everyone will love, and we know that. But we love it and, in the end, it’s our house and we’re the one who has to look at it every day. And we lurve it.

We’re going to love it a lot more once we get a chance to give our bed a makeover. Trust me. It will look fabulous.

I also love how versatile it can be. The pillows have a nice blue pattern on the back, and I like to switch it up every once in a while to keep Corey on his toes (he likes the paisley side better).

The best part? The pattern has so much color and visual interest that we don’t have to worry nearly as much about getting stuff on it. It’ll hardly be noticeable. Time for some breakfast in bed!

And, just for comparison’s sake, here’s a nice little side-by-side of the official before and after.

I, for one, think it’s a huge, HUGE improvement.

We have plans to get some throw pillows and maybe a blanket for the end of the bed, but we just haven’t gotten around to it yet. We’ll keep you updated, though!

Have you ever bought something you didn’t think would work, only to end up loving it?

I really like that there is just a little blue in the spread that ties in with your walls!

Searching for bedding was a little difficult for us because my husband is not a fan of major patterns and no flowers. I wanted something with at least a little visual appeal so when we finally agreed on something and put it on our registry I was heartbroken when BB&B discontinued it before the wedding. Thankfully we found it in the clearance section and after a couple stores were able to get all of the pieces on sale!

cute! I love your deep saturated bedroom walls. I tried to paint a wall of my living room that color but it didn’t quite turn out (more of a true blue than a teal). I was way too much of a wuss to paint our bedroom dark though. :)

I am so impressed that Cory is so open to such a bold pattern! My husband is averse to all florals and most crazy patterns… finding bedding was very difficult for us and all we could eventually agree on was geometric neutrals. I think it looks awesome!

Wow, it is so bright and happy! And the colors look perfect for when your dogs jump up on the bed too, it won’t show any dirt. Or blood if they decide to play rough again!

The side by side totally sold me on it–it really looks freakin’ great. Paisley’s not my cup of tee but it seriously looks awesome in your room. Good for you guys for scooping it up when you had the chance! :)

Just browsing through the internet to see if someone had this bedding and what color they had in the walls because I just got it too! I really like it! My room doesn’t get a lot of natural light and I’m scared to paint a dark color … but this looks awesome! I might venture a lil… thanks for posting!!

Glad I could help! Our room actually doesn’t get a lot of natural light either because we live in Texas and put up super thick, heat blocking curtains on the only window in the room – and we still love the color! :)

And i love the end of the bed bench, I’m looking for something like that too! Awesome job and thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely be bookmarking your blog and visiting more often, you have great ideas! :)
